Yesterday while out shopping, I stumbled across the Guide to Ethical Supermarket Shopping 2011, a compact little resource to take with you to the shops so you can make the best decisions about where your ‘dollar vote’ goes.
Like to shop locally and Australian made, boycott companies that test on animals and avoid companies and industries that take part in some horrendous practices? This is a fantastic companion and I sincerely urge you all to check it out and buy it if you’re interested in this kind of thing (which should be all of us!).
It’s only $6 and can be picked up at most bookshops or online.
It really is up to us to look after our animal friends. They don’t have a voice, and most of them can’t fight back. The saddest thing that I found out today when I was looking into it a bit more, is that beagles are one of the most common dogs tested on because they are so gentle, friendly and loving that they don’t fight back as much. This broke my heart.
And it’s why we’re not going to be reviewing products that test on animals from here on out. This means that some much loved brands wont be getting featured anymore. But it’s for the best, for our conscience, the earth and for the animals.
I hope you all understand and will still support us! 🙂
Be well,
Annette

I’m really glad about this! There is a whole PDF on the products that don’t test on animals yay.
Good on you Annette, what a wise and compassionate decision to make. I am with you all the way!! <3
well done – represent!
I have to say I really don’t know very much about this at all, but I can only think that this can be a good move! Well done to you 🙂
I really need to take inspiration from you and get off my arse to write the piece about sustainable fish stocks that I’ve had floating around in my brain for the longest time.
Thanks so much everyone.
There are many companies doing the right thing – and I think that a lot of people believe animal testing is a thing of the past because it’s so horrible to even think about.
It IS still occurring though, and if we put our dollar votes towards cruelty free companies it will help them grow stronger against the animal testers.
I just wish it wasn’t happening! And even if we can make only a tiny difference, I want to do it 🙂 xo
exactly – I’d only review cruelty-free/vegetarian products on my blog too.
It is so sad that this is still going on and whats worse is that it’s all the little guys in business that have made an effort to stop these practices and the big companies just like those on the list Kelly provided, keep going about thier business like they always have, testing on animals.
Thanks for the reminder on animal testing, it does still exist and it does need to stop.
🙂
Must pick myself up a copy!
Awesome 🙂 Let me know if you like it x
